Filling the Void:
The Next Chapter for Alpine Mapping
When Fatmap closed its doors, the alpine community lost more than just an app. We lost a companion that understood what we needed in the mountains. This is why we're building innmaps.
The Industry Shift
In recent years, the landscape of alpine mapping tools has undergone significant change. The acquisition and subsequent shutdown of Fatmap left a tangible void in the community. For many, this wasn't just the loss of an app; it was the loss of a standard.
Fatmap demonstrated exactly what was possible with high-fidelity 3D mapping. It proved that we could effectively scout serious lines from the comfort of our WG kitchen, allowing us to assess exposure and find lines without leaving home.
While the current market has shifted toward social features and tracking "what you did," dedicated freeriders and alpinists have been left without the tools for "what to do next". We lost the ability to perform detailed slope analysis and professional-grade route scouting, creating a gap that innmaps aims to fill.
The Gap
The alpine community needs a pro-level planning tool—not another social platform. We need a specialized solution that prioritizes 3D terrain analysis, safety, and the specific demands of backcountry exploration.
Our Mission
innmaps is built by mountaineers, for mountaineers. We understand that a planning tool is only as good as its ability to help you make informed decisions in challenging terrain.
1. Provide the most precise data possible
We believe trust is built on accuracy. We strive to integrate the highest resolution terrain data available, ensuring that what you see on the screen matches the reality of the mountain face.
2. All required information at your fingertips
Context is safety. By aggregating critical layers like slope analysis and live avalanche reports, we strive to remove the friction from planning. This is just the start and we have much more coming.
3. Help you tick your unfinished lines
The ultimate goal of planning is execution. Whether it’s a line you scouted from the valley or a project that has been on your list for years, innmaps gives you the confidence to go from the "WG kitchen" to the summit.
Our Approach
We are building innmaps differently. We are not a black-box corporation. We are an open project built by the community, for the community.
Built in the Open
We believe that the best tools are shaped by the people who use them. We operate with an open roadmap and active user involvement. If you have feedback or feature requests, you help steer the ship.
Official Data Sources
We source official survey data and high-resolution elevation models directly from government and geographical institutes. We then combine this with custom terrain analysis for maximum detail.
